Mayor of Louisiana Pitches for ICOs, and he considers a new Cryptocurrency

Mayor-President Joel Robideaux of Lafayette parish, Louisiana requested the parish government to build their own cryptocurrency and to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

The president told in his speech at the Heymann Center, Robideaux presented Lafayette as a technological hub, developing its cryptocurrency could be an advantage for motivating investors to drive money into the parish.

It will also help the Lafayette parish budget since the general fund is “basically wiped out,” while diversifying the local economy, and improving government services. Robideaux told it could develop a new way of financing public works.

He said:

“It’s not just a group of global libertarians that want unregulated, untraceable and secure digital currency transactions. Global stakeholders recognize that the world of banking, finance and payment systems is forever changed, that the world of healthcare, government and possibly every other industry is about to be disrupted.”

According to the reports, the gains from a cryptocurrency ICO could establish a living lab of Blockchain researchers and developers. Robideaux, anyhow, didn’t explain how specifically a local cryptocurrency might attract investors and what would the lab consist.

He Included:

“The idea is to develop solutions targeting government incompetence, and, more importantly, alternatives for financing public infrastructure.”
