One of the oldest luxury jewelry brands in Canada, Birks Group, is now accepting bitcoin at some stores.
The firm reported on Tuesday that it has collaborated with US-based bitcoin payments processor Bitpay to allow ‘faster, easier and more secure’ purchases for clients.
At present, bitcoin payments are available at eight of the group’s stores, located at Brinkhaus Calgary, Vancouver West Hastings, Calgary, Fairview Mall, Bloor, Yorkdale, and Montreal out of 26 that it operates across Canada.
Some of the brands that are available for buying through bitcoin are Cartier, Rolex, Breitling, and Bulgari, the firm stated. It’s two newly launched stores in Patek Philippe and Vancouver, Graff, and further expected to accept the digital currency soon.
Birks Group president and CEO Mr. Jean-Christophe Bédos stated, “As a globally growing brand, we think that BitPay will benefit our clients as we look to align ourselves with these innovative abilities that are on the forefront of technology.”
The firm continued that this is BitPay’s “first major implementation” of its point-of-sale solution in Canada.
Bitpay’s chief commercial officer, Mr. Sonny Singh, “Accepting bitcoin helps Birks Group to cater to their high-end international clients and get new buyers while giving an innovative and safe payment option.”
A year ago in December, one of the biggest online gold dealer, APMEX, too started accepting Bitcoin, again through Bitpay. And recently, Pennsylvania-based Marks Jewelers collaborated with e-commerce platform Shopping Cart Elite to allow crypto payments, including bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, and bitcoin cash.
